Borrow an electric vehicle for free

Borrow an electric vehicle for free

Interested in trying out an electric vehicle? Our project provides FREE 2-6 week EV test drives to rural Americans across the Appalachian region. Borrow an EV today to see how it can work for you! We’ll provide all of the resources you’ll need to discover why EVs are the future of transportation.

Rural Reimagined

This project aims to bring electric vehicles (EV), outreach, and education to the rural Appalachian region spanning the states of Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. If you are a resident in this region and are interested in borrowing an EV for 2-6 weeks at no cost, let us know! Additionally, we will provide the resources you need in order to keep the vehicle charged, as well as help you find information on installing an EV charging station in your area. Though requirements for borrowing the vehicles vary by state (and can be found on each state’s page), general requirements are listed below:

  • Must provide a valid driver’s license (maintained for at least a year)
  • Clean driving record
  • Proof of vehicle insurance
  • Resident in the Appalachian region

If you are interested in participating in this project, please fill out our contact form. Information about the vehicles can be found on the vehicles page, and if you have any additional questions, please visit our FAQ page.

Project Goal

The objective of this DOE-funded project is to build the underpinnings of a comprehensive EV ecosystem and green economy in the Appalachian region to transform the lives of rural communities through strong regional collaboration. This project aims to provide clean and affordable mobility options to the communities by developing needed charging infrastructure and adopting and demonstrating various cost-effective EVs in differing applications. In addition, by partnering with a broad set of EV stakeholders, this project aims to create outreach, training, and education opportunities for residents in rural Appalachian communities to kick-start electric vehicle adoption and clean-energy job opportunities where it is needed most.
